There are a couple of old coal mines along the trail, local cowboys and sheep herders still use the trail today to move their herds to summer grazing. Hikers and people who like to explore also use the area. The earliest information about Rock Canyon comes from Jedediah Smith, back in 1826. Back in the day, mountain men, local Indians, Cowboys, Sheep Herders and Settlers from the Sanpete and Sevier counties used this trail. (The infamous, modern day mountain man Troy James Knapp used this trail to move between the counties).
